Is paper grease resistant?
Most paper is as such not grease resistant, but there are several “greaseproof” grades and other paper can be made grease resistant –to different degrees- by treating it.
Grease resistant papers will not show any grease stains and are used for packing fatty food products (butter, meat, fish, etc), pet food. Also for labels on bottles for olive- and other vegetable oils grease resistant labels are preferred.

- Pure vegetable parchment has a 100% grease barrier without being coated, treated or laminated.
- High density greaseproof paper has a very good grease resistance that has been achieved by mechanical treatment (high degree of “beating”) of the pulp.
- By treating packaging or label papers with (totally “food contact safe”) resins either “in the mass” or by means of coating, paper can be made grease resistant.
