What is sustainable forestry ?
In accordance with the European agreement (Helsinki 1993) sustainable forestry is: “stewardship and use of forests in a way and at a rate that maintains their bio-diversity, productivity and their potential to fulfil, now and in the future, relevant ecological, economic and social functions, at local, national and global levels, and that does not cause damage to other ecosystems”.
European forests are sustainable according to this definition.
